Wills 101 Scholarships

The 101 Scholarships Fund has been established from generous legacies and donations made by former residents of Wills Hall. The scheme will facilitate residence in the Hall for 10 students, one each year between 2021 and 2030 (the 101st anniversary of the foundation of the Hall).

To qualify, applicants will need to meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • They must have accepted an offer of a place at the University of Bristol to study for an undergraduate degree programme

  • They must give priority to Wills Hall in their application for accommodation

  • Their household income must be £42,875 or less.

Applicants may apply for the Scholarship before they have completed their application for accommodation but must put Wills Hall as their first choice in that process. The award of the Scholarship will guarantee the allocation of a room in Wills Hall.

One Wills Hall 101 Scholarship will normally be awarded each year from 2021 (where funds permit) and benefits will consist of:

  • A grant of £4000 (normally in the form of a rent-reduction, applied termly pro rata in line with normal rental arrangements)

  • Up to £400 on application to the Chair of the Scholarships Board to support travel, the purchase of books or equipment, or equivalent expenses

  • Free life membership of the Wills Hall Association (the Hall’s alumni body).

What information is needed?

  • The application form asks for brief details of academic and non-academic achievements and an estimate of household income

  • Applicants must apply for means-tested funding from the regional funding provider e.g. Student Finance England and consent for their household income details to be shared with the University so their income can be verified if an award is made

  • The form also requires a personal statement of up to 500 words outlining how the receipt of this award would support the applicant’s ambitions for study at the University of Bristol and as a resident of Wills Hall, including their potential contribution to Hall life

All eligible applications will be scrutinized by a Scholarships Board chaired by the Chair of the Wills Hall Association and including a senior member of the University’s Residential Life team. There will always be a member of the University's academic staff on this Board.
