2019 End of Year Bulletin

Celebrating 90 years of Wills Hall

The Chancellor of the University of Bristol, Winston Churchill, opened Wills Hall on 14th December 1929. He was carried shoulder high around Old Quad and signed the following statement (“on trust”) I, Winston Spencer Churchill MP CH, Chancellor of the University of Bristol, declare there to be no finer hostel thanWills Hall among the Universities of the British Empire. I hope that by now members know that this is the 90th year of Wills Hall! New students certainly do as they received a warm welcome from the Committee and former students along with a commemorative water bottle. I have received some lovely messages about our 90th Anniversary celebration. This is all down to a huge effort from the Committee, University staff, former JCR Presidents, current and former students and was a clear sign of just how much Wills Hall is loved. 2020 is the 90th Anniversary of theWHA and I am looking forward to our Summer Reunion and seeing old friends and new. We are always looking for new WHA Committee members to get involved with our work and you can give as much (or little) time as you can spare. Please do email us if you are interested. Many thanks as ever to the Editor and her team.

Charles Gunter Wills Hall Association Chairman
